Baseball Game Preview: Kellis Cougars vs. Lake Havasu Knights

The Kellis Cougars will challenge the Lake Havasu Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kellis hasn't scored more than two runs for five games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Kellis fell victim to Sunrise Mountain and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 21-0 to the Mustangs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Havasu). They were the clear victors by a 31-0 margin over Kellis on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Landen Nigg looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Deegan Cross was a standout: he got on base in all six of his plate appearances with one home run and seven RBI. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Lockman, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.

Lake Havasu always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .745. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kellis only posted an OBP of .353.

Lake Havasu's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 11-5. As for Kellis, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

Kellis suffered a grim 31-0 defeat to Lake Havasu in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
