Baseball Game Preview: Mayfield Wildcats vs. Nordonia Knights

The Mayfield Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Nordonia Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Nordonia took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mayfield, who comes in off a win.

Mayfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Aurora with a sharp 10-1 win on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Mayfield got a great performance from Dom Prince as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Prince has posted since back in April.

At the plate, JD Dinnen was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Carmen DiPietro, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Nordonia suffered their biggest loss since March 29th on Friday. They lost 11-2 to Lake Catholic. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 5-14. As for Nordonia, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Mayfield skirted past Nordonia 1-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
