Softball Recap: Long's Loss Ends 16-Game Winning Streak at Home

Long dropped their record down to 29-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's 16-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Opp Bobcats by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 on Saturday.

Anna Claire Free was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Free was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

As for Opp, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

On Opp's side, Addison Moseley spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Jaidyn Ivey was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Crislyn Birge, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Opp beat Long by a score of 5-0 later that day.
