Basketball Recap: Carterville Comes Up Short

Carterville lost against Vienna back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Carterville Lions were dealt a 68-25 loss at the hands of the Vienna Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 431st, while the Eagles are ranked 34th).

Despite the defeat, Carterville had strong showings from Layla Yates, who posted six points, and Kennedy Diel, who scored no points. That's the most points Yates has posted since back in January.

Carterville has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for Vienna, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

Carterville won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Hamilton County at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Vienna, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll face off against Carbondale at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Vienna's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight games.
