Baseball Recap: Fremont Beats Copper Hills for Their Third Straight Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Fremont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Copper Hills Grizzlies, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Silverwolves have posted since May 16, 2024.

Chase Jones made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

In other pitching news, Tad Grange looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Jones wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brant Koford, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. Cole Sanders also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The win (which was Fremont's third in a row) raised their record to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Copper Hills, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Fremont will take on Lone Peak at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Copper Hills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Davis at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
