Baseball Recap: Matanzas Pirates vs. Gainesville Hurricanes

With a playoff win on the line, Matanzas rose to the challenge on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Gainesville Hurricanes 5-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Pirates as it spelled an end to their 14-game losing streak.

Matanzas got a great performance from Seth Avellar as he struck out 13 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Those 13 strikeouts gave Avellar a new career-high.
