Basketball Recap: Leo Cauble's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Millard West over Skutt Catholic

Millard West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 67-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Skutt Catholic SkyHawks. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the SkyHawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leo Cauble, who went 5-for-8 en route to 12 points and five boards. Ben LaBorde was another key player, putting up ten points.

Skutt Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Wissink, who shot 75% from the field on his way to 12 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was George Ziebell, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

Millard West's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Skutt Catholic, the win was the sixth in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record up to 2-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Millard West will square off against Omaha North at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Skutt Catholic, they will challenge Gretna at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
