Basketball Game Preview: Amherst Broncos vs. Axtell Wildcats

The Amherst Broncos will take on the Axtell Wildcats in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Tuesday, Amherst was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 38-34 to Arcadia/Loup City. While the Broncos didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Rebels 17-9 in the first quarter.

Amherst's loss came about despite a quality game from AnnDee Jaixen, who posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Cast, who put up seven points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Axtell). They walked away with a 39-30 win over Ansley/Litchfield on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Amherst's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Axtell, their victory ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4.

Everything came up roses for Amherst against Axtell in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 55-6 win. In that game, Amherst amassed a halftime lead of 38-3, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
