Wheat Ridge hasn't had much luck against Green Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wheat Ridge Farmers will head out to square off against the Green Mountain Rams at 6:30 p.m.
Wheat Ridge is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 20th straight game on Tuesday. They were outmatched by D'Evelyn and fell 68-15. While losing is never fun, the Farmers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while the Jaguars are ranked 60th).
Wheat Ridge got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Kailey Mason and Julie Jackson, who each put up four points. Sky Copeland held things down on the boards with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Green Mountain came tearing into Tuesday's match with 18 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.1 points), and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to the Lobos for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-20 win. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 21 points or more this season.
Green Mountain found their leader in sophomore Ella Cockrum, who went 5-for-11 en route to 14 points in addition to seven assists and five steals. Those seven assists gave Cockrum a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grace Herrig, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 10 points.
Green Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.
Green Mountain's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37.8 points. As for Wheat Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 1-20.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wheat Ridge has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Green Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Wheat Ridge took a serious blow against Green Mountain in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 63-22. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Wheat Ridge was down 41-5.
