Baseball Recap: Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs vs. Wray Eagles
After flying high against Highland last Saturday, Haxtun came back down to earth. Haxtun fell just short of the Wray Eagles by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday. The Fightin' Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Madden Larsen was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Grant Statz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
Haxtun's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Wray, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Coming up, Haxtun will take on Caliche at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Wray, they will square off against Sedgwick County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Sedgwick County has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.2 runs per game on average), something Wray will no doubt try to take advantage of.
