Softball Preview: Seymour Eagles vs. Jefferson County Patriots
Seymour hasn't had much luck against Jefferson County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will take on the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Seymour barely beat Carter the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles blew past the Green Hornets 19-6 on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Seymour got a massive performance out of Baylee Lawson, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Lawson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landry Terry, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.
Seymour was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Jefferson County got the win against Morristown-Hamblen East on Wednesday by a conclusive 12-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.
Olivia Mottern spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Zoe Lawson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, one run, and one double. Kayli Reece was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Seymour's record is now 7-11. As for Jefferson County, their record now sits at 12-15-1.
