Basketball Recap: Northeast Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jy'aira Washington and Geniya Fisher

Northeast lost against St. Petersburg Catholic back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Northeast Vikings fell 53-41 to the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons.

Geniya Fisher and Jy'Aira Washington certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Fisher posted eight points in addition to ten boards and five steals, while Washington had 15 points and five steals. That was a full 36.6% of Northeast's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Northeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Leading St. Petersburg Catholic to victory were Liv Geritano and Naomi Denmark. Geritano went 8 of 13 en route to 18 points and four steals, while Denmark went 8 for 9 on her way to 16 points and six rebounds. With that strong performance, Geritano is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaidon Jones, who earned four points and four steals.

Northeast has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7.

Northeast has already played their next match, a 52-17 victory against Hollins on the 13th. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-30 win against Admiral Farragut on the 13th.
