Baseball Game Preview: Widefield Gladiators vs. Harrison Panthers

For the second straight game, Widefield will face off against Harrison. The Gladiators will challenge the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Widefield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Widefield barely beat Harrison the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Gladiators never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Gladiators.

Zane Cleaton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Cleaton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Nick Prantl was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. He has become a key player for Widefield: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Braun, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Widefield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harrison only managed four hits.

Harrison has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Widefield, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Harrison's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Widefield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460.
