Softball Game Preview: Washington Panthers vs. Dunlap Eagles

Washington has won seven straight games at home, while Dunlap has won seven straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Panthers will welcome the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Washington 1.5, Dunlap 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Washington's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Thursday, when they got past Canton's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Panthers put the hurt on the Little Giants with a sharp 10-3 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Dunlap never let their opponents score on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Ottawa 1-0.

Ottawa's batters probably weren't too happy with Sutton Centoni, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (she gave up zero walks). Centoni has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dunlap saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Cunningham, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Cunningham has snagged this season.

Washington's victory bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Dunlap, their win bumped their record up to 16-3.

Washington might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Dunlap in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
