Basketball Recap: Pine Ridge Comes Up Short

Pine Ridge and St. Francis Indian squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Pine Ridge had to settle for second. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to the St. Francis Indian Warriors. That makes it the first time this season the Thorpes have let down their home crowd.

When it comes to explaining why Pine Ridge lost, don't look at Marvin Richard lll. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 28 points and ten rebounds. The match was Richard lll's 22nd in a row with at least 19 points. Anthony Steele was another key player, putting up 11 points along with six assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Pine Ridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. This was only their fifth loss (out of 17 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Pine Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for St. Francis Indian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Pine Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Francis Indian, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-49 defeat against Clark/Willow Lake on the 11th.
