Basketball Game Preview: South View Tigers vs. Douglas Byrd Eagles

South View is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Douglas Byrd is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. After both having extra time off, both will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South View knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Douglas Byrd likes a good challenge.

South View will bounce into Friday's contest after beating E.E. Smith, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. South View came out on top against E.E. Smith by a score of 62-53 two weeks ago.

It was another big night for Danauje Brooks, who went 13 of 22 on her way to 37 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of South View's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordynn Parnell, who posted eight points along with 17 rebounds and five steals.

South View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Douglas Byrd hadn't done well against Gray's Creek recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way two weeks ago. Douglas Byrd walked away with a 49-39 win over Gray's Creek.

South View better keep an eye on Jazmine Burns. She was instrumental in Douglas Byrd's win, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 19 boards. Burns has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Shania McLucas was another key player, putting up 16 points and three steals.

South View's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Douglas Byrd, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

South View strolled past Douglas Byrd when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 46-32. Will South View repeat their success, or does Douglas Byrd have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
