Softball Recap: Liberty-Benton Beats Arcadia for Their Seventh Straight Win

Liberty-Benton waltzed into their matchup on Monday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Arcadia Redskins. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Megan Gerken spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Liberty-Benton let Kylie Steinman and Kylie Modd run wild. Steinman went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Modd went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run was Modd's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Gillig, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Liberty-Benton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Liberty-Benton pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Arcadia, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty-Benton will venture away from home to take on Columbian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Arcadia, they will head out to face off against Leipsic at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
