Preview: Gulf Pointe Latin Gladiators vs. Aletheia Christian Academy Lions
The Gulf Pointe Latin Gladiators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Aletheia Christian Academy Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gulf Pointe Latin is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Gulf Pointe Latin was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 50-49 to South Baldwin Christian Academy.
Micah Crumpler put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kyler Aikins, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Aletheia Christian Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 71-40 victory over Atmore Christian at home. Aletheia Christian Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 24 points or more this season.
Aletheia Christian Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Thomas Dickson out in front who scored 15 points along with seven steals. That's the first time this season that Dickson scored 15 or more points. Daniel Bailey was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Gulf Pointe Latin has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Aletheia Christian Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Gulf Pointe Latin have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Aletheia Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 30.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Gulf Pointe Latin was able to grind out a solid win over Aletheia Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 50-40.
