Volleyball Recap: New Lexington Starts Season with Victory on the Road

New Lexington had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the River View Black Bears 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Black Bears: they've now won four in a row.

New Lexington had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-9.

Gracie Newlon was the offensive standout of the match as she had eight digs and two aces.

Newlon wasn't the only good server: New Lexington was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. New Lexington will face off against rival John Glenn at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, River View is set to take on their familiar foe Maysville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
