Baseball Game Preview: Person Rockets vs. Carrboro Jaguars

The Person Rockets will head out on the road to face off against the Carrboro Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Tuesday, Person didn't have quite enough to beat East Chapel Hill and fell 2-1. The Rockets have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meetings.

Ian Downey was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only two earned runs while striking out ten over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in hits (zero).

Meanwhile, Carrboro suffered their closest loss since March 16, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Louisburg by a score of 7-5.

Carrboro saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Jones, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Jones a new career-high in stolen bases.

Person's record is now 2-2. As for Carrboro, their record is now 0-2.

Everything went Person's way against Carrboro when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Person made off with a 14-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Person since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
