Baseball Game Preview: Rincon/University Rangers vs. South Mountain Jaguars

The Rincon/University Rangers will take on the South Mountain Jaguars at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Rincon/University and 12 for South Mountain dating back to last season.

Rincon/University's tournament run continued when they took on Cienega on Thursday. Rincon/University came up short against Cienega, falling 14-4.

Rincon/University saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Sands, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. That run was Sands' first of the season. Another was Mauro Wilson, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, South Mountain scored the most runs they've had this season last Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 26-10 to Glendale.

Kirk Bower made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Roman Barreras was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Even though they lost, South Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

South Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Rincon/University, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Rincon/University took their victory against South Mountain in their previous matchup back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 10-0. Will Rincon/University repeat their success, or does South Mountain have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
