Preview: Brush Beetdiggers vs. Berthoud Spartans
The Brush Beetdiggers will head out on the road to face off against the Berthoud Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Brush focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Saturday.
Brush couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were beaten by Sidney 71-29. Brush has struggled against Sidney recently, as their match on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Hunter Proctor was Brush's leading scorer, having posted nine points.
Edgar Ortiz held things down on the boards with five rebounds.
Even though Berthoud has not done well against Northridge recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Berthoud slipped by Northridge 60-59. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Berthoud.
Reece Stratmeyer was the offensive standout of the matchup as he dropped a double-double on 24 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Berthoud's points. Isaac Erickson was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Brush's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Berthoud, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
Brush beat Berthoud 58-48 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Berthoud's Axel Peterson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Brush to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
