Baseball Game Preview: Weaver Bearcats vs. Jacksonville Christian Academy Thunder

The Weaver Bearcats will square off against the Jacksonville Christian Academy Thunder at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Weaver challenged Wellborn on Thursday. The Bearcats fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bearcats have suffered since March 2, 2024.

Weaver saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cael Fulmer, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Fulmer has become a key player for the Bearcats: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-19 otherwise. Caden Thorton also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville Christian Academy entered their tilt with Anniston on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 18-17 W against the Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Thunder have posted since April 15, 2024.

Jacksonville Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Jessie Gannaway, who went 4-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Gannaway a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Brodeur, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Jacksonville Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Weaver has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-20 record this season. As for Jacksonville Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.
