Baseball Game Preview: Danvers Falcons vs. Winthrop Vikings

The Danvers Falcons are taking a road trip to face off against the Winthrop Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Danvers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Winthrop's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Danvers took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Masconomet Regional, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Falcons narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Chieftains 4-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Falcons.

Bryce Clark made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Clark was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Beckett Wodarski was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Wodarski is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Jack Curcuru was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Winthrop had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Neither they nor Medford could gain the upper hand on Thursday so the two teams had to settle for a 3-3 tie.

Winthrop's draw gives them a new season record of 1-4-1. As for Danvers, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Danvers couldn't quite get it done against Winthrop in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-4. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
