The Green Bobcats will head out to take on the Notre Dame Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Green is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
While Green's victory against St. Joseph Central wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bobcats had just enough and edged out the Flyers 8-7 on Monday. The win was nothing new for the Bobcats as they're now sitting on three straight.
Jonathan Knapp made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Blake Smith was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double. Quincy Merrill was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame got themselves on the board against Clay on Monday, but Clay never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Panthers. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Titans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Like Green, Notre Dame also got a great game from a two-way player: Eugene Collins. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Collins was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Collins wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Conner Estep, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Estep has snagged this season. Another was Ethan Kingrey, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Green's record now sits at 12-3. As for Notre Dame, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Green skirted past Notre Dame 4-2 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
