Grady Howe made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs.
In other batting news, Landon Hasty was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Cai Summers, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Portsmouth Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Nute and Wilton-Lyndeborough, and Nute kept the tradition alive. The Rams put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 7-1 win on Friday.
The team relied heavily on Cooper Janis, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Nute's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Portsmouth Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Portsmouth Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Nute struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Portsmouth Christian Academy's way against Nute when the teams last played back in April, as Portsmouth Christian Academy made off with a 14-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
