Softball Recap: Sumter Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Sumter waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Ridge View Blazers with a sharp 16-1 win. Considering the Gamecocks have won nine contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Lillie Ivey made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Ariana Evans was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Rhodes, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Sumter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ridge View only posted an OBP of .400.

Sumter's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Ridge View, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

Coming up, Sumter will venture away from home to challenge Latta at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Gamecocks 2.6, the Vikings 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Ridge View does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
