Volleyball Recap: Henry Gildehaus and Zeth Abelman Secure Win for Mission Bay

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against University City, Mission Bay was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Mira Mesa Marauders by a score of 3-1. This was payback for the Buccaneers, who suffered a 3-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Mission Bay had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 26-24.

Leading Mission Bay to victory were Zeth Abelman and Henry Gildehaus. Abelman had 32 digs and five assists, while Gildehaus had 19 assists and seven digs. Those 32 digs gave Abelman a new career-high. Jack Taylor also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Mission Bay moved to 9-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Mira Mesa, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 11-10.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mission Bay is set to challenge their familiar foe Canyon Hills at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mira Mesa will face off against rival Coronado at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
