Soccer Game Preview: Mentor vs. Avon Lake + How To Watch

The Mentor Cardinals will square off against the Avon Lake Shoremen at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mentor's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Mentor managed to slip by Shaker Heights the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cardinals lost 4-0 to the Red Raiders on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Mentor can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio soccer rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Shaker Heights are ranked 76th).

Meanwhile, Avon Lake's game on Wednesday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 2-0 to Avon. The loss was Avon Lake's first of the season.

Mentor's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Avon Lake, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 11-1-2.

Mentor suffered a grim 4-1 defeat to Avon Lake in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
