Recap: Nogales Apaches vs. Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks
The Nogales Apaches had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Ironwood Ridge 49-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Nogales has posted yet this season.
Nogales' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cecilia Burruel led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Burruel also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Alexa Navarro, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Ironwood Ridge's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Molly Walter, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Walter has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Jaidyn Saucedo was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Ironwood Ridge struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Nogales pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Nogales' victory bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Ironwood Ridge, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nogales will take on Mountain View at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 39 on Wednesday. As for Ironwood Ridge, they will be playing at home against Buena at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
