The Plum Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Deer Lakes Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Plum is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Plum had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Burrell on Monday. The Mustangs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bucs a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Mackenzie Marotta made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Plum got a massive performance out of Sydney Pici, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Danielle Pici, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Plum kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 13-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, while it was Deer Lakes who put the first runs on the board on Thursday, it was Hampton who put up more. The Lancers came up short against the Talbots, falling 11-2. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Lancers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Deer Lakes saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Laurenza, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Plum's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Deer Lakes, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-11.
Deer Lakes' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Plum has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. It's a different story for Deer Lakes, though, as they've only averaged .343. Will they be able to contain Plum's hitters? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
