Preview: Wisner-Pilger Gators vs. Wakefield Trojans
The Wisner-Pilger Gators's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Wakefield Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on December 28th. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Wisner-Pilger's 19-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a serious blow against Arlington on Thursday, falling 70-36.
Meanwhile, Wakefield's 21-5 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were the victim of a tough 56-34 loss at the hands of Lutheran-Northeast on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Wakefield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while Lutheran-Northeast is ranked 15th).
Despite the loss, Wakefield had strong showings from Jacob Borg, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds, and Anthony Valenzuela, who scored nine points. Valenzuela has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played.
Wakefield struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Wisner-Pilger bumped their record down to 0-7 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Wakefield, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Things could have been worse for Wisner-Pilger, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 64-46 loss to Wakefield in their previous meeting back in February. Thankfully for Wisner-Pilger, Cade Johnson (who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
