Basketball Recap: Ashlee Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Winfield over George Washington

After flying high against Poca last Tuesday, Winfield came back down to earth. The Winfield Generals took a 56-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the George Washington Patriots on Monday. If the Generals were looking for revenge after losing 63-39 to them when the teams met back in January of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Winfield lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ashlee Johnson, who posted three points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Winfield is 8-4 when Johnson posts three or more steals, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Canterbury, who earned nine points and six assists.

Winfield's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for George Washington, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Winfield has already played their next contest, a 56-45 defeat against Varsity Opponent on the 17th. As for George Washington, they will take on Cabell Midland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
