Softball Recap: Union City Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Union City, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Winchester Community Golden Falcons on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Indians as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Kierra Thacker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Oaklee Reichard was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabrielle Ordonez, who went 3-for-4 with three runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Union City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winchester Community only managed five hits.

Union City's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-4. As for Winchester Community, they moved to 4-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union City will host Wes-Del at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Winchester Community, they will take on Randolph Southern at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Falcons are facing the Rebels at the right time seeing as the Rebels are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
