Preview: South Newton Rebels vs. Tri-County Cavaliers
South Newton is 2-8 against Tri-County since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The South Newton Rebels will look to defend their home court against the Tri-County Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: South Newton has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Tri-County will arrive with three straight victories.
South Newton fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against North White on January 6th but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to the Vikings.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Chayse Stillabower, who scored eight points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Marks, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Tri-County's game on Saturday was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They secured a 43-38 W over Frontier.
Tri-County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Riley Hughes, who scored 13 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Eric Zarse, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
South Newton's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-10. As for Tri-County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season.
