Basketball Recap: Athens Takes a Loss

Athens lost against Canton back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Athens Hornets were dealt a 63-26 defeat at the hands of the Canton Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 508th, while the Eagles are ranked 67th).

Athens has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Canton, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-5.

Athens will square off against Mabank at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Canton, they will be playing at home against Brownsboro at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Brownsboro's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Canton's offense will have their work cut out for them.
