Volleyball Recap: Newport Harbor Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Mercy

Newport Harbor is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Mercy. The Sailors won by a set and slipped past the Jaguars 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Sailors have posted since August 26th.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Newport Harbor got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 25-20, 27-29, 25-19.

Despite the loss, Mercy still got an impressive performance from Addison Davis, who had 19 assists and nine digs. Davis is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 13 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Newport Harbor's victory bumped their record up to 19-7. As for Mercy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-10 record this season.

Newport Harbor didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Marina on the 25th. As for Mercy, they have also already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Sacred Heart on the 23rd.
