Basketball Game Preview: Suncoast Chargers vs. Wellington Wolverines

Suncoast and Wellington are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2015, but not for long. The Suncoast Chargers will venture away from home to challenge the Wellington Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Suncoast is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season.

Suncoast will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Palm Beach Gardens, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Suncoast had just enough and edged Palm Beach Gardens out 51-48.

Suncoast got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Philleah Bright out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 boards. Bright's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Nekeria Sutton was another key player, going 6 of 13 on her way to 15 points.

Meanwhile, Wellington had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They secured a 39-33 W over the Stallions. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Stallions are ranked 389th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wellington's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. As for Suncoast, their record is now 8-6.

Suncoast barely slipped by Wellington when the teams last played back in January of 2024, winning 52-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for Suncoast since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
