Softball Game Preview: Houston County Fighting Irish vs. Hickman County Bulldogs

Houston County has gone a perfect 3-0 against Hickman County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Fighting Irish will host the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Houston County's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Hickman County has been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Last Monday, Houston County beat McKenzie 8-3.

Brilee Anderson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Anderson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ally Mitchell and Preslee Moore did most of the damage at the plate: Mitchell went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Moore scored a run while going 3-for-3. That home run was Mitchell's first of the season. Addie Horn was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Houston County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Hickman County lost 10-1 to Cheatham County Central on Tuesday.

Houston County has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Hickman County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Everything went Houston County's way against Hickman County in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as Houston County made off with a 13-2 win. Will the Fighting Irish repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
