Baseball Recap: Rio Victorious

Rio came out on top against Montello on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run third inning. The Vikings put the hurt on the Hilltoppers with a sharp 17-1 victory. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Hilltoppers on Monday, they had to take a 6-2 loss.

Ashton Ladwig was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Garrett Clark also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Rio always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Rio's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Montello, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rio will take on Parkview at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Montello, they will face off against Central Wisconsin Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Hilltoppers surely won't give up without a fight.
