Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Eastern

Eastern had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the West Union Dragons an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Warriors have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Allie Grooms's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maddi Simpson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Shelton, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Eastern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in five consecutive games.

Eastern's victory bumped their record up to 15-4. As for West Union, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern will face off against Piketon at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 2.7, the Redstreaks 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for West Union, they will take on Fayetteville-Perry at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
