Softball Recap: East Wilkes Picks Up 19th Consecutive Victory

East Wilkes had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on the Christ the King Crusaders with a sharp 17-2 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Chloe Andrews made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Andrews was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Hendren, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Hannah Mathis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

The victory was the 19th in a row for East Wilkes, bringing their record up to 22-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Christ the King, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-12.

Coming up, East Wilkes will take on Highland Tech on Friday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 12.2 runs per game this season. Christ the King does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
