Baseball Preview: Olympian Eagles vs. Coronado Islanders
The Olympian Eagles will take on the Coronado Islanders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Olympian's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Coronado's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Olympian took on Canyon Crest Academy on Tuesday. The Eagles came out on top against the Ravens by a score of 7-2.
Olympian got a great performance from Landon Holtzapple as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). Holtzapple has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Nico Cintron was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Diego Estrada was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Olympian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canyon Crest Academy only managed four.
Meanwhile, Coronado beat Steele Canyon 8-4 on Wednesday. The Islanders haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Coronado's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Olympian, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
Olympian might still be hurting after the 12-4 defeat they got from Coronado when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
