Basketball Recap: Franklin Academy Comes Up Short

Franklin Academy was the 71-28 winner over Wake Prep Academy when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Franklin Academy Patriots fell just short of the Wake Prep Academy Guardians by a score of 60-57 on Thursday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (55), the Patriots still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Franklin Academy lost, don't look at Hayes Lewis. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 22 on his way to 32 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That's the most points Lewis has posted since back in January of 2024. Dylan Smith also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Franklin Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 12 consecutive matches.

Wake Prep Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Shawn Amadike out in front who posted 15 points and three steals. Amadike has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Josh Bracey, who went 9 of 16 en route to 22 points and six boards.

Franklin Academy's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 11-6. As for Wake Prep Academy, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2.

Franklin Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 62-58 win against Northern Durham on the 18th. As for Wake Prep Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-35 victory against Research Triangle on the 17th.
