Softball Recap: Calvary Christian Finds Playoff Glory Versus Tampa Catholic

With a playoff win on the line, Calvary Christian rose to the challenge on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tampa Catholic Crusaders a 10-0 shutout. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 contests by six runs or more this season.

Morgen Talley was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Emma Bell was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Braylee Rano, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Calvary Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .419 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Calvary Christian's win was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 27-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Tampa Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season.

Calvary Christian will face off against Bishop Verot at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 1.3, the Vikings 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Tampa Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
