Soccer Game Preview: Nelson County vs. Dan River

The Nelson County Governors will challenge the Dan River Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Nelson County has five straight wins, Dan River has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Nelson County's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 5-0 margin over Altavista. The result was nothing new for Nelson County, who have now won six matches by four goals or more so far this season.

They hit Altavista with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Nathan Manthey (3), Jackson Winter, and Sebastian Vega-Macedo.

Meanwhile, Dan River didn't have quite enough to beat Chatham on Wednesday and fell 2-1.

Nelson County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those three games. As for Dan River, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Everything went Nelson County's way against Dan River in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Nelson County made off with a 5-1 victory. Will the Governors repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
