Basketball Game Preview: Vega Longhorns vs. Spearman Lynx

The Vega Longhorns will take on the Spearman Lynx in a holiday battle at at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Spearman took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Vega, who comes in off a win.

While Vega didn't have the best season last year (they finished 16-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They took down Sunray 51-33 on Friday. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Bobcats are ranked 1052nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Spearman entered their match against Stratford on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Spearman took a 42-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stratford. The Lynx's defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Spearman's loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-4. As for Vega, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-2.

Vega came up short against Spearman in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, falling 50-38. Can Vega avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
