Volleyball Game Preview: Freedom Falcons vs. Pittsburg Pirates

The Freedom Falcons are taking a road trip to face off against the Pittsburg Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Freedom is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest loss since March 6th on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to Liberty. The defeat continues a trend for the Falcons in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost seven in a row.

The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-11, 25-19.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pittsburg, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Acalanes 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since March 28, 2024.

Pittsburg took Acalanes into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 28-26, 22-25, 25-18, 15-11.

Freedom better focus on containing Angel Lozano De La Cruz and Jessiah Ozuna as the pair were huge in Pittsburg's win. Lozano De La Cruz had 11 digs and two aces, while Ozuna had 27 digs and three assists. That's the most digs Lozano De La Cruz has posted over his last nine contests. Another player making a difference was Angel Garcia, who had 16 assists and nine digs.

Pittsburg has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-10 record this season. Freedom's loss dropped their record down to 6-10.

Freedom might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Pittsburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Freedom avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
