Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Cypress Lakes Spartans walked away with it. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 73-65 on Monday. The win was familiar territory for Cypress Lakes who now have seven in a row.
Leading Cypress Lakes to victory were Makennah Alexis and Aniah Alexis. Alexis scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and six steals, while Alexis dropped a double-double on 30 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it 28 consecutive games in which Alexis has scored at least a third of Cypress Lakes' points. Another player making a difference was Taliyah Applewhite, who scored five points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kiana Vega, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vega has scored all season. Khloe Vaughn was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Klein Oak were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cypress Lakes only posted nine assists.
Cypress Lakes has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 25-10 record this season. As for Klein Oak, their loss dropped their record down to 29-8.
Cypress Lakes will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against DeSoto at 7:30 p.m. on February 23rd. DeSoto will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something Cypress Lakes surely won't give up without a fight. Klein Oak does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
