Football Recap: Marion Triumphs

While Marion's victory against Long Creek wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Dragons 45-42. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Kade Pape went supernova, throwing for 252 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 104 yards and one TD on only ten carries. Those 252 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Tanner Otis helped out on the ground, rushing for 110 yards and a rushing touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Marion was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 204 rushing yards in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Marion, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jaiden Riley, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Marion's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Long Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marion will head out to challenge Gonzales at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Long Creek, they are headed away from home for the first time to square off against Crockett at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
